A Lawn At Last

The turf was due to arrive today, so I'd put aside everything expecting it to turn up in the afternoon, as these things generally do when when you are waiting for something. So imagine my surprise when I came back from my run this morning at 6.30am to find the turf outside our house. It was stoked, as this meant that Jarvis and I could put it down early, then go off and do some fun stuff.

As Jarvis and I had done all the preparation over the weekend, it was going to be a simple process of rolling it out, cutting it in, fertilising then giving it a good drenching. So once we'd dropped Adrienne off at the train station, we changed into our rough cloths and got a move on. Jarvis was a great help, pre-wetting each patch down for me, then pointing to where he wanted the next piece laid. He then helped me sprinkle a mixture of soil conditioner, sand and fertiliser over the top and then finished it all off with a good soaking.

The lawn now looks superb and we'll keep giving it a good drench each night, until the root system takes hold and then may give it a mow in about 4-weeks. The variety we used is called Sir Walter and was recommended to us by the supplier Millers Turf, as it's hard wearing, does very well in shaded areas and is non allergenic, which will be great for Jarvis and I, as we both suffer for grass rashes. We used seven square metres on our very small front yard, at a cost of $101, including delivery. Now we cant wait for it to become established, so we can play cars and build camps on it.

As we'd finished by 8.30am, we decided that we'd head over to Bondi Mall, as Jarvis was in need of some new gum boots and slippers. These we picked up in our favourite shoe shop Shoes & Sox, which gave us a chance to say hello to our buddy Leeron who works there. Jarvis of course, gave the other Shop Assistant the complete run around, as he normally does. We then checked out some toys in David Jones, where a talking Darth Vader scared the living daylights out of Jarvis when he pressed it's talking button. We then checked our hair in the mirrors at Build-A-Bear (see pic) before grabbing some KFC for lunch.

It's now 3.30pm and as Jarvis had a wee power nap on the way home in the car, he's showing no sign of wanting to have a sleep this arvo, which means no Nana-nap for me, leaving me tired and a bit grumpy. I guess I'll just have to leave my moring runs until later, so will have to stop getting up at 4.30am. I should do that, as it looks like Jarvis' lunchtime naps will be a thing of the past from very soon...BUGGER!

House Dad.
