Weekend Wrap - 26 & 27 July 2008

I can't say that Jarvis, Felix or myself have had the best time over the last 3-days. It all started when I got a phone call on Thursday from Jarvis Teacher saying that she had noticed Jarvis had sore eyes and that they were likely to be infected with conjunctivitis. When I picked him up after school, he looked shocking, with big puffy red eyes, the poor wee thing.

So Adrienne and I decided that we'd keep him home on Friday, so that the boys could have a PJ day, which meant no baths for the boys, heaps of TV watching and lounging about in our sleep wear - wonderful. It was just what we all needed, as Felix and I had also come down with bugs, so the rest was much appreciated. It was good too, as I was expecting a couple of pairs of running shoes to arrive from the US in the morning, so being at home guaranteed that we wouldn't miss the delivery. Jarvis of course, thought they were for him and kindly wore them around the house all day to break them in. By the way, the running shoes I bought, would have cost me $240 a pair in Australia, but I got two pairs for the same price, including shipping from The Running Warehouse in the US.

On Saturday, we also kept things very, very simple with lots of rest and cuddles for Jarvis and Felix, as by now they were both pretty run down and tired. We all just hung around the house and played, which isn't too exciting to write or read about, but was essential to get the boys health back up again. I did score a free night out to see the All-Blacks take on The Wallabies and even though we lost badly, it was still a pleasure to be out and doing adult stuff.

Jarvis spent about 20-minutes on Sunday morning, upside down and wrapped in a All-Blacks flag, pretending to be a bat! I've no idea why he did this or what his inspiration was, but he enjoyed it. Shortly after that, the bat was bathed and dressed and taken by his Dah to the local mall, so that Felix and Adrienne could have some peace in the house to relax.

To be honest, Jarvis was still pretty much under the weather to be out, but I think he was going stir crazy at home and needed to move around for a while. At the mall, we spent heaps of time in Rebel Sports. We tried and played with every sports item imaginable in the 90-minutes we spent in store. Jarvis favourite play things were the weights and boxing punch bags. He also spent heaps of time throwing basket balls through the hoop. I think I'll set up a hoop somewhere at home, so he can shot some??? hoops, is that right?

We then came home and spent some time on the top bunk, which has been nicknamed the Scientist room, as it's where Jarvis keeps his globe, wizard book, skeleton and German language books from the destructive hands of Felix. I love doing educational things with Jarvis, like looking at maps, learning things and so forth, whereas Adrienne is more the 'go to' parent for crafts and things.

So yeah, that's Jarvis last three-days, which have been a bit of a drag to be honest. He's still pretty run down and I can here him whimpering in his sleep, only metres from me, so I'll finish this post and go and give my wee man a hug.

Have a wonderful week.

House Dad.

PS. With all the sickness in our house, Adrienne finally updated Felix's blog this morning. I put a blank post in last Thursday, Felix's birthday, but this morning was truly the first time that we found a spare 30-minutes to resize and edit the pictures, and write the text.
