Our Little Warrior

In the Weekend Wrap I mentioned that Jarvis was unwell from Saturday night onwards. Things got dramatically worse from Monday morning, after Working Mum left. At about 9.00am, Jarvis became very listless, refused to take fluids and I could not get any response from him. I jumped into the kombi and drove him to Hospital. Once there, he was put on oral fluids and diagnosed as dehydrated. I called Working Mum and she joined us. After several vomits, he began to totally flop at about 1.00pm. The Doctor and Nurses rushed him to Resuss and tried to insert an IV drip. He was also connected up to heaps of electronic equipment that every now and then did that awful long bleep, like you see in the movies. VERY scary. Also they could not get a vain and tried several times with no luck. All without any pain killers. Jarvis was in such god awful pain and we were totally messes. Another Doctor came along and got the IV into a vein and Jarvis slept for another hour.

Once he had received enough fluids, we were taken to Starship Hospital for observation. He was kept on the IV and then went back to oral fluids from 7 - 8pm. We had the option of staying, however we felt that Jarvis had had such an awful few days that he would be better in our bed. He sleep OK, but vomited again this morning.

We took him to our local Doctor who said he was not too dehydrated and gave us some Pedialyte. He also said there was nothing we could do for the stomach cramps that are causing him so much pain.

So now it's Tuesday night and Jarvis is snug on a mattress in the front room with his two best buddies, Nefni Bear and Monkey, watching The Wiggles. He's still very weak and does not move, but we have been slowly getting fluids into him and he looks a bit brighter.
