Louise Rocks

Over the school holidays, the boys and I avoid our normal haunts like the plague. The beauty of doing stuff in the week is that we pretty much have the run of some of the places we visit, unlike the school holidays, when most places are full to the rafters with little people.

So it was, with the school holidays and World Youth Day behind us, that we ventured out. Our first choice was off course the wonderful Powerhouse Museum, which we just love visiting. After entering, we headed straight up stairs to the members lounge, where Jarvis always pops in to say hello to our buddies Louise and Alana. Our friends were very busy this morning, so we kept our visit very brief and made our way to the play area, where I watched the boys and enjoyed a lovely cup of tea.

We were very fortunate that Louise found a few minutes to sneak out of the office to come and chat with us. Louise is just the coolest and dare we say, most stylish person we know. Cool, chic and the guardian of the chocolate bear biscuits, makes Louise one of the main reasons that we go up into the members lounge. A really, really great person :o)

Our next stop was Zoe's House, which is still very popular with 3 - 6-years old. It is just the best place to play with foam building blocks, a crane, trucks and heaps of other hands on bits. We were in there for some time, so I suggested that we move outside to the play ground for some lunch and a play in the sunshine.

After lunch it was back inside to check out the Space exhibition that Louise had recommended. The main attraction was the zero gravity lab, which is a cylindrical room, fitted out as a space lab that rotates whilst you stand on a platform in the centre. It either gives you the effect of zero gravity, or makes you feel, as it did me, incredibly sick. Jarvis absolutely loved it, though did feel a bit dizzy after a while.

After about 3.5-hours in the museum, it was back to the car, where both my wee men fell asleep within seconds. Once back home, I lifted them out of the car and laid them safely in the front room, where they both had a splendid long sleep, with the only noise being Jarvis singing Bah Bah Black Sheep in his sleep. A wonderful day out.

House Dad.
