The Botanical Gardens

As I only ventured far enough out of the house yesterday to shake my duster, I was in desperate need to get some fresh air today, so we decided that we'd have a morning out, with the one condition, that it was not to a mall or shops of any description. That was Adrienne's call and a very good one at that, as we often get lazy and just spend money on 'stuff'. So as it was pretty sunny and a pleasant 21 degrees, we thought we'd take a look at the Botanical Gardens which, are right in the heart of the city.

So off we set at a respectable 9.30am and found an excellent park outside the Art Gallery of New South Wales and it only cost $8.80 to park there for two-hours! I know, the whanau back home will be going "$8.80, what a rip!" Anyway, it was a good spot and convenient for our needs, so I pumped the money into the meter, all in silver coins which was pissing off the pleb behind me, as he kept huffing and puffy. To really piss him off, I kept dropping the coins deliberately and pretending I couldn't see them. He got so angry, it was really funny. I love baiting BMW drivers ;o)

The Sydney Art Gallery was really cool, though I will have to go back on my own sometime to really appreciate it, as Jarvis was here, there and everywhere, running like a mad boy. So after 30-minutes we'd sussed that Jarvis had, had enough, so we bolted outside into the sunshine.

From there it was only a short 3-minute walk to the gardens, a site Jarvis and I have visited a few times now, but Adrienne had never been too. Jarvis and I were keen to show the sites, especially the Flying Fox bats and Golden Orb Weaving spiders, which are rather large. And the gardens didn't disappoint Adrienne either, as there were thousands of bats hanging from the trees, squeaking and pooing away. We also saw some pretty big eels in the duck ponds which Jarvis attracted by tapping a stick on top of the water. I was so tempted to try and flick one out of the water and onto the grass verge to show Jarvis, but I'm not sure that the park wardens would have approved.

It was then time for a spot of lunch at the cafe, as I'd neglected to make us a packed lunch. It was nice though to eat some real tasty sandwiches, rather than my budget chicken roll and mayo ones. The birds in the park especially liked our food and would try and nick it from our fingers, with the eventual prize of Jarvis' ginger-bread man being stolen by a rather cheeky one.
We then spent another hour just wandering the gardens with Jarvis rushing here and there, totally wearing himself out. He was so tired that he feel asleep within 60-seconds of being put into his booster seat. He's now tucked up in bed with his beloved Mumma, and now both my beautiful babies are fast asleep.

House Dad.
