His day started with a quick bath and hair wash before being bundled into the car for the 30-minute drive over to North Ryde, where we met up with the other Sydney Striders who I trained with for The Canberra Marathon. Jarvis had met them all before in Canberra, so knew that they were Dah's running buddies, the guys I hang with when I leave the house in complete darkness, to return hours later looking exhausted. Denise, Margaret, Sharyn, Paula and Leonor, otherwise known as Phil's Fab Five put on the most amazing spread of post run drinks and foods, but Jarvis only had eyes for the jelly snakes, his most favorite of sweet things. Jarvis was also delighted to see Kate, Alec, Nicola and Sean, some of the children of Phil's Fab Five. He wasted no time in getting to know them before disappearing off into the distance to play.
After all the runners had returned from their 30K run, we packed down all the kit, jumped into the car and drove on home. Adrienne and Felix were waiting for us at the front door when we returned, both looking like they'd missed wee Jarvis heaps. It was a quick lunch and then back into the car for a drive to the city.
The purpose of our trip into the city was to catch up with an old friend of mine who I've worked with in radio, back home in New Zealand, for many years. Jacqui Jensen and I studied radio at the same polytechnic in Nelson and have always kept in contact over the years, as we've moved from one place to another. She's such a cool woman and we've had many, many fun times together. Jacqui has not seen Jarvis since he was a wee baby, but I just knew that they'd get on well, as both are the million-mile-an-hour type people. Within seconds they were like the bestest buddies ever! Jacqui has just the most wonderfully caring nature, as does Jarvis, so they were cuddling and holding hands as they walked down the road.
At Pitt street, Jarvis, Adrienne and Felix left Jacqui and I to have lunch and a catch up natter, while they headed up The Sydney Tower. Lunch with Jacqui was a good excuse for me not to join them, as I really do suffer with vertigo horribly. Just the thought of going up there makes me feel ill. Anyway, Adrienne reported back that they had a wonderful time looking through all the telescopes to check out the Sydney sights.
After their trip up The Sydney Tower, Jarvis, Adrienne and Felix joined us in Myers toy department, as we wanted to say Hi to Elmo and The Cookie Monster. Jarvis really couldn't be stuffed with the two Sesame Street characters, as I think they freaked him out a bit. Anyway, he had more important things to do, like find more and more toys to add to his birthday wish list.
After saying our byes to Jacqui, who Jarvis really, really misses, we drove on home so that Jarvis could play with his new Mr. Potato Head kit, which he combined with all the bits from his other kit to create a Mr. Dah and Mrs. Mumma Potato Head. I have to say that I liked my new muscle arms, but I don't really fancy kissing Mumma now, as she's grown a rather unattractive curled yellow mustache!
House Dad.
