Rainy Public Holiday Stuff

It's a National holiday in Australia today, so of course it's been raining! On the upside, we've had Adrienne home on a Monday, which is just the best thing. It's been pretty casual day that started nice and slow with Jarvis wanting to play with my extensive tool kit. I'm taking the piss, as my tool kit fits into a shoe box and half of the contents are Jarvis play tools anyway. So yeah, it was up onto the top bunk as a precaution, in case Felix wanted to touch the screwdrivers, scissors and stuff, to play for a while. I'm glad to report that no fingers or eyes were lost while playing.

Once we were all bathed, dressed and fit to leave, I bundled the whanau into the car for a mystery trip out. I'm always up for new experiences and was given a great idea for a play location from my weekday running buddy Rebbecca. So it was that we pulled up at The Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym, in St. Peters. Jarvis was so excited at the prospect of climbing all the big walls and swinging from the ropes. I decided before we left that Adrienne should do the belaying for Jarvis, as Dah's tend to be a bit impatient with their little people in these situations. Also, unbeknown to me, Adrienne had done some climbing about a year ago through work. I really should listen to what she tells me about work aye ;o)

After some brief safety lessons from an Instructor, Adrienne and Jarvis set off to do some climbing. It went pretty well, with Jarvis attempting a few climbs that saw him go up about 3-metres off the ground. To be honest though, he was more interested in swinging from his rope, as I think he's still a bit on the young side for the sport. But it's a start and we'll give it another go in a few months, when we might take along his buddy Olly too.

While Dah had a nice long nana nap, Adrienne and Jarvis baked some fairy cakes, which I missed out on, as there was an impromptu gathering of neighbours outside our house, where Jarvis dished out his freshly baked cakes. That'll teach me for sleeping in the daytime.

A great day with the whanau - Life's good aye :o)

House Dad.
