New Years Eve - New Years Day 2006

Firstly, Happy New Year to everyone. Sorry for not updating the blog last night, but we didn't get back home until quite late, as we went to a party at James, Karen and Charlie's place. Actually, the real reason is that there was a MASSIVE cockroach running in the spare room, where the PC is, and I was too scared to go in. We have never ever seen such big cockroaches as they have here. They'd take your leg off if the could! Back to last night, James, Karen and Charlie live in Point Piper and have a wonderful view of Sydney harbour. It was a great party and extremely nice to meet some new people, from the likes of Ireland and Persia. Both Adrienne and Jarvis got very excited as we all watched the 9.00pm fireworks show, with lots of oh and ah's coming from the two of them.

Once we got home and Jarvis to sleep, Adrienne and I watched the midnight fireworks show on Channel 9, which was very spectacular. We live about 5 kilometers from the Harbour Bridge, and as the fireworks went off, the whole house shook. A staggering show and the power and noise was amazing.

Today in Sydney it topped a crazy 44 degrees! We went to the Zoo for a couple of hours, where Jarvis, firstly dipped his toes and then got butt-naked in the kiddy water area. It was so hot that we had the whole area to ourselves, so decided to have our picnic in a cubbyhouse to escape the sun. We've never lived anywhere with these sort of temperatures and it's taking a while to get used to, but we'll get there.

When we got home, it was cold showers and a nice long sleep next to the new fans we bought yesterday. And as I now type, Adrienne and Jarvis are playing with the hose in the backyard, in an attempt to cool down. I think we'll be going for a drive this evening, for no other reason than to enjoy the air-con in the car.

House Dad.
