It was really cool driving down into the Megalon Valley, a really step and winding road, with the damp rain forest looking a bit like New Zealand. We even had a light flashing on our dashboard warning of frost. We've never, ever seen that logo flash up before, but you wouldn't in Sydney would you.
At the farm Jarvis made a new friend in Rachel, who interestingly is originally from Dunedin. Rachel showed Jarvis all the cool animals, which included alpaca, pigs, ponies, goats, chickens and much much more. Rachel even encouraged Jarvis to chase the geese, which he did gleefully. Then it was onto the serious business of why we came to this particular tourist destination, and that was for Jarvis to ride a pony.
Adrienne and I stood back and let Rachel, who is obviously the expert in these things, put Jarvis up onto the pony and take him for a couple of laps around the farm. I have to admit to being a bit nervous around large animals, but Jarvis was totally fearless and took it all in his stride. He looked so cool and Rachel said he was a natural. Jarvis had the best time at the farm and said it was his favorite thing about the whole trip.
Then it was back home to Sydney, where after everyone, except me, had a sleep, as I had suitcases to unpack and washing to do, as the work of a House Dad is never done ;o) Once my babies had had a sleep, it was then out into the backyard, where I told Jarvis that Adrienne's bike had had a baby. I was tricking of course, as it was my present to Jarvis, a new bike, as he'd far outgrown his old one. He was stoked. Adrienne then took Jarvis for a ride up and down the street on his new bike. It went pretty well with only a few wobbly moments.
So yeah, that was Jarvie's birthday weekend in The Blue Mountains, which was really an excuse for us all to get away for a nice break. It was heaps of fun and we all got to see and do some cool things, plus spend lots and lots of quality time together.
House Dad.
