Jarvis Takes His Nanny To The Zoo

Sydney put on another wonderful spring day for us, so the boys, along with Nanny Ronnie and Granddad Steve, squeezed into our small car and drove to Sydney Zoo. We'd normally be at the gates at exactly opening time, but with a couple more whanau in our wee house, it takes a lot longer to get everyone organised and out of the door.

The Zoo was rocking by the time we arrived and Jarvis was keen to get stuck in. We decided that we'd split up with the Grandparents going one way and the boys going another. I would not be any fun for the boys to go at the olds pace and no fun for the olds to race around and not see anything. Well that was the plan anyway. After a fun ride in the sky train, Jarvis wanted to go back and find his Grandparents, which we did.

Jarvis scored Granddad Steve's bird watching binoculars and enjoyed looking at things far away, but had more fun looking the reverse way and making near things appear further away! I even managed the rare feat of getting in a picture with my boys, two days in a row.

After about 20-minutes Jarvis was over going at his Grandparents pace, so we decided to split up again, which meant that we could whiz around, play and cause mayhem. It was fun, but by about 1pm I can honestly say that I was more tired than on any other trip out with the boys. The dynamics have changed so much with Felix now being mobile and as I've said before, I don't like him to be strapped into a stroller all the time, but out and about moving. This is all well and true, but with the boys going at different paces and in different directions, I'm going to rethink how I approach trips out from now on. It is not helped by the fact the Sydney Zoo is built on step hillside. I might try and leave the stroller in a strategic position next time, move around without it and come back at a latter date. That or hire a cute Nanny to help me out each time ;o)

Eventually, three VERY overtired boys meet up with Nanny Ronnie and Granddad Steve for the drive home. Once home, the three VERY overtired boys slept for a straight 2-hours, before waking up to find a house full of visitors, which was so nice.

The day concluded with a sparkler display by Jarvis, outside in the street. No wonder people think we are the strange Kiwi family in our road, who spend too much time having fun and making too much noise. Ah well, such is life :o)

House Dad.
