The Sydney Observatory - TV Commercial

We were all up very early this morning, as Adrienne had a business breakfast to attend, so she needed to be washed, dressed and out of the door before 7am. Normally Jarvis would sleep through all of this and wake after Adrienne has left, but he woke up with a beautiful "Morning Mumma and Dad" and then rushed off into the lounge to climb up unto the mantle piece and get my birthday card down. Then it was back into bed to look at the card which had a large birthday cake on the front. He sat there for about ten minutes looking at the card and you could see the thoughts ticking over in his head. Then all of a sudden something clicked and he shouted "Birthday Cake" and dashed into the kitchen and wrenched open the fridge door to beam with delight at the cake. He then took the cake out and carried it back to bed, where he stuck the odd finger in it and licked the chocolate off. The thing is, he really doesn't like cake or sweet stuff for that matter, but we think he digs the whole Happy Birthday thing, which is kind of sweet.

Jarvis really has a thing for planets and stars at the moment, fuelled by the glow in the dark stars and solar system that we've placed on the ceiling of his room. With this in mind, the boys took a trek to The Sydney Observatory this morning. I'd been putting if off, as it's a bit of a trek, first by train, through the CBD, and then a step walk up Observatory Hill, but I really fancied doing something different this morning, so it was all on for Dah and Son.

The train ride was, as they always are with Jarvis on board, a complete riot, as he moves around the carriage talking to everyone. He made lots of new buddies and had about 30-odd people in hysterics with his shivering impression when we went into each tunnel. I think our boy is a bit of an actor at heart.

The Sydney Observatory was pretty cool, set in some nice grounds with an amazing view of Sydney and the bridge. Also being connected with The Powerhouse Museum, you just know that it's going to have lots and lots of hands on things for little people to touch. It's pretty small and not really aimed at under 5/6 year-olds, however Jarvis and I killed about 45-minutes inside, which is pretty good considering it's only the size of a largish house. Jarvis even scored a poster of the solar system from one of the workers, who was impressed with Jarvee's enthusiasm for anything celestial.

Then we had a spot of lunch and walked, thankfully, down the hill and along the water front heading towards Circular Quay train station. As we made our way along the water front, we had to slow down as part of it was closed off, as a commercial was being filmed. But hey, this wasn't going to stop Jarvis, who ran onto the set and did his best break dancing moves. Then a runner came up to me and I thought "Oh here we go, another telling off". But she said "The Director thinks your boy has lots of character, would you mind hanging around with him in the scene for a few more shots? Oh, it's for a British Airways commercial by the way." So yeah, Jarvis and I ended up hanging for a while and scored a free feed and drink from some British Airways Hostesses. As with all these things, it's highly unlikely that we'll make the final cut, or that we'll even see the commercial, but it was a bit of a distraction and I've always had a thing for hostesses :o)

Just before I complete this post, I just looked in on Jarvis as I heard him talking through the monitor next to his bed, so thought he was waking. Apparently not, he's still asleep, but chatting away. Want to know what he said in his sleep when I looked through the door? " Umm, ummm, where's the cake?"

House Dad.
