Dirty Ole Town

Jarvis and I had planned to catch up with our new play date buddies Michelle and Ava this morning, but Michelle called before our get together to tell me that her boy Jak and Ava had both vomited in the night. Having had some awful gastric bugs in the past that have ended with Jarvis in intensive care in Auckland, I'll do anything to avoid anything puke related. I have to say though, that the very fact that Michelle called and gave us the option to cancel has elevated her to hero status in our household, as she was concerned not only for Jarvis and I, but for our beautiful pregnant Adrienne. How considerate is that? What a nice thing to do. Anyway, I called up just now and Jak and Ava seem better and we've arranged to have our first play date with the girls next week.

So yeah, what could two boys busting with energy do on an overcast and sticky day? I know, lets go into the city for a run around and see if we can pick up a Mothers Day present for Adrienne. So onto the train we jumped and got off at Town Hall, which was totally the wrong stop, but we were under no timetable, so going with the flow was cool. Jarvis ran around the Town Hall area, scaring the life out of the local bird population and had a great time.

Our next stop was Myers to pick up a Mothers Day present for Adrienne, which is always a case of having a mad dash around, keeping one eye on Jarvis and the other eye trying to find something that would suit Adrienne. Luckily, Jarvis walked up to an item and made a noise relating to the picture on it which was as good as a sign as I needed, that Adrienne would approve of it. And who would have thought that Myers stocked bondage gear with little pussy cats on eh!

I took the said item to the counter and let Jarvis play in the area he was. I couldn't see him, but could hear a clanging and banging noise, that I knew he was making, so I managed to make the purchase with relative ease. It wasn't until I saw in the general area of the noise, a large piece of the display cupboard come crashing down, that I had to make a quick dash to where Jarvis was located. Sure enough, he'd taken a whole display stand to pieces and was rebuilding it into, as he told me, a rocket ship. Time for a quick exit from Myers I think!

We then moved onto Pitt Street where we decided to have a wee bite to eat. It was here that we worked out that ALL the seating areas are occupied by 'Faggers'. Being an ex-smoker myself, I'm not having a dig, but you can't actually sit down in Pitt Street without someone sitting down next to you and having a smoke. The reason seems to be that city council has put a litter bin/ashtray next to all the seats, so even if you do find a bench with no smokers on it, within seconds there's someone standing next to you with a fag on the go. I'm not going to complain though, as I'm an ex-smoker and it was just an observation.

The next port of call was to see our buddy Ken who owns Well Being on the corner of Kent Street in the CBD. We've never been to Ken's shop before, as it's not in an area that we'd normally go to, but we've meant to go and say "hi" for ages, and say "hi' we did. Jarvis also scored some yummy ice cream from Ken, which he really liked. It was just before lunchtime, so we didn't stay too long as Ken had heaps to do, plus Vanessa, Ken's wife, has a much hotter and younger sister who works in the shop sometimes, but wasn't working today, so we didn't hang around.

Our final and most important stop was to see Jarvee's most favourite person in the world, his beloved Mumma. Adrienne came down to meet us in the lobby area, which was well timed, as I think we were just about to be turfed out by security for running around and around in the revolving doors. Jeeze, that's such fun. Anyway, we took Adrienne/Mumma to lunch and made sure she ate some food, as she's not the best at looking after herself and no end of growling from me, seems to make any difference.

Then it was home after spending 4.5 hours out with Jarvis wearing big boy underpants and NO accidents. It's been pretty smooth so far, and as someone told me, it's not about training the child, it's about training the parent to remember to take your little one to the loo on the hour, every hour, which seems to work for us. But I still have my vacuum packed emergency spare cloths in the day pack, just to be on the safe side....plus some for Jarvee too!
