Green Fingers

Jarvis has recently showed lots of interest in the school project that his class has undertaken, and that is to grow some plants from seeds. He eagerly showed us the project one day this week when we picked him up and talked about it lots in the evening. Nanny Ronnie wanted to do something for her Grandchild, so suggested that she set Jarvis up with his own little vegetable, fruit and herb garden.

Once Jarvis was dropped off at school Felix and I drove Nanny Ronnie to a local garden centre where Nanny Ronnie set about the task of selecting suitable plants, feed and other bits. I had a momentary lapse of forgetting myself and picked up some bits, only to put them back instantly when I realised that I was desperately out of my depth. Neither Adrienne or myself are interesting in gardening, preferring the grey colour of concrete to the lush green of grass and flower beds. Just look at our plastic fantastic synthetic back lawn for a good example!

Anyway, Nanny Ronnie set Jarvis up with the following selection of plants: Strawberries, Beans, Tomatoes, Zucchini, Cucumber, Lettuce, Peas, Coriander, Thyme and Cress. A nice little selection, for the tidy sum of $300! OMG, plastic ones would have been so much cheaper and lasted longer than the 2-weeks these ones will when I eventually kill them all.

But seriously, a MASSIVE thank you to Nanny Ronnie and Granddad Steve for setting Jarvis up with his little garden, which he'll now have to look after, in order to get his daily stickers on his charts. And you never know, in a month or so, we may even be eating some of his produce.

House Dad.
