We've seen the Hop On - Hop Off bus driving around Sydney since we moved here and have always thought that it would be a great idea for a day trip. So I called Sydney buses this morning and found out some details, such as fares, pick up points and times of departures. The easiest option for us was to get the Light Rail to Sky City Casino and pick it up from there, which is exactly what we did.
Jarvis was very excited about going on the buses from the moment I mentioned the idea yesterday. He frantically waved it down and jumped on full of excitement. The fare wasn't too bad either, just $30 for a 24-hour pass for me and nothing for the boys, as they are both under five.
It was great to sit up the front and see all the sights of Sydney from a different angle. Plus there was an audio commentary the whole way, that was packed with loads of interesting snippets of history.
At William Street we jumped off for the Sydney leg of the Hop On - Hop Off bus and waited about 15-minutes for the Bondi one to come along. This one took us all through the Eastern Suburbs and passed many of the places we played when we first moved to Sydney.
At Bondi Beach we alighted and spent 45-windy minutes on the beach. The surf was extremely high, with rightly so, no swimmers or surfers, as it was just awash with massive walls of foaming water. It looked very dangerous indeed.
Once back on the bus we made our way back, via a different route to the city, for our drop off at Sky City Casino. While we waited for Light Rail to take us back home, the boys played in the water feature, running in and out, seconds before the water came bursting out. Jarvis was very daring and escaped being drench by fractions of seconds.
It was a great day out, but to be honest, a little too much for one parent to look after two boys, as I was forever on my guard, holding both boys up to see stuff and making sure they were safe getting on and off the buses. Next time, I think I'll either get some help or do it with Adrienne.
House Dad.
